Create abstract paintings in the style of Alma Thomas

Alma Thomas was a painter and educator who was based in Washington D.C. for the majority of her life. She is best known for her mosaic-like style of painting with pronounced and isolated brushstrokes. Her unique method of mark-making has been deemed “the Alma stripe,” making her one of few artists to have a type of brushstroke named after them. Learn about Alma Thomas' incredible life and artistic journey -- from her humble beginnings in Georgia to her monumental solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she was the first African American woman to be given a solo exhibition. Then create your own Alma Thomas-inspired paintings of flowers and the natural world in the artist’s signature aesthetic. .

Ticket includes art history lesson and all art materials including a 9x12 inch canvas. Coveralls/ smocks will be provided to protect your clothing.
